The mHabitat team are product owners for the new innovative Leeds mental health information portal. We are looking for a content writer/manager to work with us full time for a year (freelance/fixed term contract or secondment) starting in January 2016 (or earlier if possible).
You will be part of a small team developing the portal for people across health and care services and the public in Leeds. You will be responsible for implementing the content generation for the new platform, collaborating with a wide range of Leeds stakeholders in a very complex, and at time challenging environment, so you need to be familiar with Leeds health and social care, preferably being Leeds based.
You will be familiar with the overarching principles of website development and understand the challenges of working with large organisations in the sector. You will be skilled at managing competing timescales and servicing the digital company building the portal, with content to agreed specifications in a timely manner and to a high standard of writing.
You need to be a confident communicator, adaptable in your approach to working with professionals and the public, service users and carers alike. You will work under the specific direction of the product owner in the mHabitat and will be supported by Volition, a third sector mental health network organisation in Leeds.
The job will be done when the content for the portal has been gathered, format agreed, and with a clear system in place for updating. The first iteration of this is expected to be completed by July 2016.
Key areas of focus
- Working to understand the different content requirements from each of the project stakeholders.
- Researching and consulting with subject matter experts.
- Collaborating with service providers, GPs and other information providers to identify existing content sources that should be sign-posted within the new portal.
- Writing the content to ensure it is fit for purpose and meets the quality criteria set out in the content style guide.
- Sourcing/identifying need for relevant media (where necessary) and populating content templates.
- Adding the content into the content management system (CMS) of the Portal and carrying out audits to agreed standards as required.
- Reporting effectively in writing and presenting progress reports as needed for the mHabitat team.
Skills required:
- High standard of English including Plain English skills and an obsession with punctuation!
- Experience of writing for the web and associated software use.
- High standard of editing and proof-reading skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Experience of working effectively with multiple stakeholders
- Able to use the style guide to create consistent content.
- Broad awareness of mental health
The role requires a self starter, used to working independently and providing a hub of communication for the project content – in regular contact with internal and external partners and reporting regularly to the product owner at mHabitat. Being proactive in the management of relationships is core to the projects success.
You will need to be aware of the status of timings, key milestones, budgets, resourcing etc. at all times and report progress against them where agreed, in relation to the generation of the content.
